Coast to Coast on Horseback

On Friday 24th June we were host to 7 horses, 6 riders and Brian the horsebox driver.

Mike Myers of Bigland Equine Group, South Lakes and five other riders are raising funds
for the children's charity HorseHeard by riding Coast to Coast
on Cookie, Star, Jigsaw, Spirit, Fred, Bailey and Poppy.
To find out more about their work visit www.horseheard.com

Riders arrived tired and ........

...... horses arrived hungry.

Untacked the horses graze contentedly on the edge of our meadow
before being turned out to pasture.

The group reflect on the day's trail whilst tucking into dinner
around the kitchen table at Pry House Farm.

While they enjoyed dinner I couldn't resist popping out to see how
my four-legged guests were getting on in Firs High Pasture.

All perfectly happy.

The next day was glorious and Spirit set off ahead to find a good vantage point
as the whole trail is being filmed by his rider.

Some riders found our walls make excellent mounting blocks!

After a few safety checks by Mike .....

..... they were off on the next leg.

This is the third time we have had equine bed & breakfast guests at Pry House Farm.
It is always a pleasure to have horses on the farm.
Hope you all enjoy the rest of the C2C and please come again.

Baby Birds

There are still an abundance of birds all around the farm.

I was thrilled to catch these three young birds on camera.

If I haven't identified them correctly please let me know.

Pry House Farm is perfect for bird watching - why not come and stay? http://www.upperswaledaleholidays.co.uk/

Fledgling Pied Wagtail

Young Skylark

Ugly duckling!
No seriously, this lovely little duckling chick has lost its mum
and I found it swimming round and round in the trough in the yard.
I've put him in the meadow and hopefully he will find his family.

Every Shepherd needs a Hut!

February 2016 and after a long journey the foundations
of my latest project are gently lowered off the lorry.
The chassis belonged to an original shepherd's hut found in a hedgeback in Norfolk.

Look at it now!
Walls & windows and roof and door - its so exciting!

Just a few small jobs left for my joiner to do and then it will be coming home
for me to finish off, furnish and dress.
Watch this space for up-to-the-minute progress as it happens.

....On a Bicycle Made for Two

The majority of our guests who are travelling Coast to Coast arrive at
Pry House Farm on foot but not everyone.

Paul and Emma travelled west to east on a tandem - a super lightweight, very modern tandem
with a top speed of 41 miles per hour!

Next morning after a bit of routine maintenance .....

.... they were off!

Ivelet Bridge, Upper Swaledale

Ivelet Bridge, a magical place.  Perfectly peaceful and .....

.... as pretty as a picture.

The dappled woodland shade is carpeted with wild garlic and bluebells.

Water cascades down from Oxnop Gill.

A beautiful walk along the edge of the Swale to Muker.
